The Research University in the Helmholtz Association – Living the Change

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is the only German university that is also part of the Helmholtz Association. It was successful in the Excellence Strategy with its strategy "The Research University in the Helmholtz Association – Living the Change". The focus points of the proposal are further strengthening its top-level research, increasing exchange with society and creating sustainable career paths for early career researchers.

In the Excellence Strategy, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), founded in 2009 by the merger of the University of Karlsruhe and the Karlsruhe Research Center pursues the goal of further expanding its top-level research. Since innovation is specified as one of the core missions of KIT – a unique feature in the German university landscape – the transfer of scientific findings into application plays a major role at KIT. In this context, KIT also relies on an intensive dialogue with society. In its major research areas of energy, mobility, and information, KIT covers the entire spectrum from basic research to application and aims to generate knowledge to contribute to the sustainability of society and the environment. As part of the funding as a University of Excellence, KIT aims to establish 100 new professorships and create sustainable career paths for early career researchers.
